Your Questions About Jobs In Los Angeles

Charles asks…

Where are people lining up for jobs in los angeles?

I am working on a journalism story and I want to cover a company giving away some free career products to the massive amounts of unemployed people lining up for work. I need to set the whole thing up and want to know where exactly in los angeles are these lines that I can go photograph. Also if any one knows how I can get a story like this picked up by any bigger publications.

Robin West answers:

There are job fairs all the time in convention centers and the larger hotels. There are long lines to actual places that are supposedly a hiring company. But most booths are set up for dubious pricey and nebulous schools that disappear in a few years and their placement records and services are abysmal.

Thomas asks…

Eager 18 year old looking for construction jobs in Los Angeles?

I’m 18 years old and attending college right now. I’m looking for a construction job in Los Angeles and I heard they pay really well, especially since you dont need any experience and since I just graduated from high school I think its great. Do you guys know any construction jobs in LA I could apply for because I really need to start making some money now?

Thanks, this means a lot to me

Robin West answers:

Except for some stimulus funded stuff, construction is way down so there aren’t that many jobs around. Plus the pay is not what it was in the past. As a rule of thumb, the less experience you need, the less pay you are offered. That is one reason why you should continue your education if you can. Z

Susan asks…

Where is the best place to look for jobs in Los Angeles?

I wanna move to California i wanna make films but right now all i wanna do is find a job in Los Angeles any job doesnt have to be in film can some1 help please.

Robin West answers:

I admire your desire to move to Los Angeles and aspire filming, but, at this time, with the unemployment rate being approximately 12 percent, it’s VERY hard finding any, and all types of employment. Adding to this, the cost of living here in L.A is very expensive as well. Why type of education, be it collegiate, or vocational, or occupational experiences to you posess?
