Michael asks…
I want to become a professional hunting guide in Africa, but can’t find a starting point (job, school, etc.).
I have a great deal of hunting experience, have contacted several safari companies, but have yet to receive a reply.
Robin West answers:
Here’s a really good idea, try being a hunting guide in areas you know! If I owned a safari hunting company in africa I wouldn’t hire some guy from the states who’s never even seen the lay of the land. Maybe move to africa, get acclimated to the surrounding hunting and game areas( maybe 10 to 15 years) then apply as a hunting guide.

Jenny asks…
how do i become a north american hunting guide?
i am an avid hunter of everything from white tailed deer, turkeys, hogs, small game, etc. i absolutely love the outdoors and would do anything to get a job either helping people hunt or something in the outdoor game field. does anyone know where i need to start in order to pursue a career like that?
Robin West answers:
In Alberta, Canada, for example, you have have to take a hunting guide program, and do a two year apprenticeship. You will also have to take a first aid course. You also have to do a 40 hour wilderness first aid course, then an 80 hour, advanced wilderness first aid course to qualify with the provincial government. They are tough courses with many failing. The courses must be “wilderness” based as EMR, EMT, or Paramedic courses don’t qualify. A friend of mine found out the hard way. I’ve done the first aid courses, they are tough but well worth it.
