Your Questions About Job Hunting California

Steven asks…

How should I start my marketing job hunt in California?

I have a bachlor degree in Business Administration majoring in marketing… all ideas and suggestions will help me out

Robin West answers:

First, you can use the resources of your college’s Career Placement Office. They are there to help you find a job.

Secondly, find the names and addresses of marketing agencies in your area, and research their web sites to find open positions to send your application

Use or register on any major job search web site like Hotjobs or Monster, and search for jobs in marketing within your zip code.

Helen asks…

Getting a Mechanical Engineering Job in Southern California?

I will be graduating from the University of Alberta (Canada) in April 2011 and I want to get a Mechanical Engineering job in Southern California (LA/San Diego/Anaheim/Orange County area) . Are there any job hunting hints for a new graduate? How is the job market looking down there? Also, I know that California has some very big engineering universities, would a graduate from the UofA be able to compete? What do employers usually look for?

Thank you for your help! :-)

Robin West answers:

The local library in the reference section should have Trade Directories which can give some good compare and contrast mechanical engineering table data, where both large and small organisations can be considered, to apply for positions.
