Is it possible for civil engineers to make huge property?
I am a civil engineer. But I have no job. I know that civil engineers salary is no so high. So I want to engage myself into business. Am I doing right thing? If I get a job, shall I able to conduct my business? I have also a desire to live in u.s.a. What is the job opportunities for civil engineers in u.s.a.? Is it possible to do own business and civil engineering job there?
Robin West answers:
Most civil engineers become a contractor. You have to have vast experience first before you attain this. Also, you should have a capital for you to have a good business like in contracting. Get an experience first by applying to a construction company is US, then after a while, save money and start building small structures like houses and offices. From there you can see your self if you can pursue to be a major contractor and have your own big contracting business.

Mandy asks…
can i have a non-civil engineering job with a masters civil engineering degree?
Don’t get me wrong I do like the course I’m on, but I just like to think that when I graduate I have a choice of either going into civil engineering or one that isn’t e.g. management, commerce etc. Largely because I here civil engineering salaries start well but aren’t great in long term
Robin West answers:
There are many people out there working in jobs that have nothing to do with their degrees.
