I am an out of work teacher. If you took the last word in that sentence – teacher – you could change it to most anything and it would probably be right for someone reading this article. Number one, never pay anyone for the privilege of doing surveys. Legitimate market research companies like MySurvey.com, MyView.com, or OnlyCashSurveys.com never ask for money from you. Instead, they are paid by the companies who provide the surveys for getting participants and collecting the data. If someone is asking you for money, be careful – they are likely a scam.

Number two, never put all your eggs in one basket. What I mean by this is, there is no reason to simply sign up with one survey company. If you do that, you’ll never receive enough surveys to make decent money from. Once you’ve identified legit companies, don’t only sign up to MySurvey.com. Also sign up to IPSOS or National Consumer Panel.

Take some time and do the research to see how each individual company operates. Some reward you with gift cards instead of cash. If you don’t like that, don’t join that company.

Taking online surveys for money isn’t for everyone. Honestly, it’s not really for me either. There’s only so many times you can tell someone how often you use Swanson products when cooking (really, who pays attention?). But in these tough times we often have to do what we have to do.
